How to Tell It’s Mice (Not Rats or Squirrels)

• Droppings: 3–6 mm, pointed ends, scattered on joists/around hatch
• Noise: light, rapid scratching and scurrying after dark (not heavy thuds)
• Nesting: shredded insulation, paper or loft debris in small clumps
• Gnawing: minor nibbling on cable sheathing/pipe lagging (we’ll check and document risk)

Our Loft Mouse Plan (Built to End the Cycle)

1. Survey & diagnosis: trace runs from eaves/risers; check kitchen kickboards and service penetrations that feed the loft.
2. Humane knock-down: targeted trapping as first line; tamper-resistant stations only where appropriate.
3. Proofing: seal eaves gaps, pipe/cable penetrations, loft hatches and external vents with metal/mesh—no foam-and-hope.
4. Loft clean: HEPA vacuum droppings/dust, apply biocidal treatment, and odour neutralisation. Lightly spoiled insulation is redistributed; heavily soiled patches can be removed and replaced.
5. Report & follow-up: photo notes, entry-point list, re-check visit to confirm clear trend.

Cable-Chew & Fire-Risk Checks

We visually assess accessible cables and note any gnaw marks. If we spot damage, we’ll document locations and recommend an electrician test/repair. (We don’t perform electrical works.)

What You Can Do Before We Arrive

• Clear the loft hatch area for safe access.
• Expose under-sink and kickboard clips—often part of the route.
• Store cereals, pet food and bird seed in sealed containers.
• Make a quick note of times/rooms you hear activity—helps us target fast.

Will you use poison in my loft?

We lead with trapping and proofing. Rodenticide is a last resort and, if used, is placed in tamper-resistant stations with a clear retrieval plan.

Do you remove contaminated insulation?

Yes—heavily soiled sections can be bagged for licensed disposal and replaced. Light contamination is HEPA-vac’d and treated.

How do you stop them coming back?

Proofing. We seal gnaw points (metal/mesh), fit air-brick/vent guards and close gaps around services and the hatch.

Is the treatment safe for kids and pets?

Yes—indoor placements are controlled and safe once dry. We’ll give re-entry times and any specific precautions.
