The second thing worth doing is photographing the damage with something for scale, and dating it. If an item is insured on a schedule, the date and extent of damage is the thing the insurer will ask about, and a photograph taken before treatment is worth considerably more than one taken after. One thing worth knowing before you panic about a rug: the damage is done by larvae down in the pile, so what matters is whether there are live ones in it now, not how many moths you have seen in the room.
