The upside is that following the trail is easy and the nest is invariably close. The survey is quick and the treatment lands where it should.

The commonest find on a property like this is a colony under the patio, usually on the sunniest side, with fine soil coming up through two or three joints.

Brush it away and note the date. If it is back within a couple of days the colony is active directly underneath, and that is the thing to treat, not the trail that goes from it to the kitchen door.
