If you have kept a cat or dog in a rented property, your tenancy agreement may require professional treatment or additional cleaning when you leave. Requirements vary a great deal between tenancies, so the first thing to do is read the agreement and speak to your landlord or letting agent.
Even where it is not specifically required, it is worth arranging if fleas have actually been seen. A flea problem discovered after you have handed the keys back is a much more awkward conversation than one dealt with before.

Why Fleas Stay After the Pet Has Gone
Adult fleas are the part you see, and they are the smaller part of the problem.
The life cycle runs eggs, larvae, pupae, adults. Eggs fall off the animal into carpet and flooring. Larvae develop down in the pile and in the gaps, away from the light. Pupae then sit inside a cocoon and can stay there, protected, until something tells them it is worth emerging.
What tells them is vibration, warmth and carbon dioxide — in other words, somebody walking into the room. That is the mechanism behind the property that seemed fine while it stood empty and produced fleas the day the new tenant arrived.
The pupal stage is also the one insecticide reaches least well, because the cocoon protects what is inside it. That is why activity can appear for a while after a treatment as the remaining pupae hatch out, and why anyone promising a single visit will clear every flea in the building is telling you what you want to hear.
So treatment has to deal with the property and the life cycle, not just the adult fleas that happen to be jumping today.
