Carpet Moth Control in Buckingham
In a let, the argument is rarely about the moths. It is about the carpet.
Carpet Moth Control in Buckingham
Buckingham has a large rented sector, student and otherwise, and moth damage in a rented property raises a question the other pests mostly do not: who pays for the floor.
It is worth getting the sequence right, because the order things happen in decides how the conversation goes.
Rented property
Who Books It, and Who Pays for the Floor
Broadly, and this is general information rather than legal advice: the structure and the fixtures are the landlord's, and a fitted carpet that came with the property is normally the landlord's too. Cleanliness and the tenant's own belongings are the tenant's. Moth damage sits awkwardly across that line, because the larvae may have arrived in a tenant's rug and eaten a landlord's carpet.
What settles it in practice is evidence gathered before anybody starts arguing. A written report that says what was found, where, at what extent and on what date is worth far more to either side than a recollection at the end of a tenancy. We provide that on any job where it is asked for, and it costs nothing extra.
The practical order: whoever is on site reports it in writing straight away; the survey happens with the furniture moved; the report distinguishes live activity from historic damage, which are genuinely different things and often argued about; and the treatment is agreed by whoever is paying before it starts.
That distinction is a practical one rather than a technicality: live larvae in the pile mean an active problem, and bare patches with none mean one that finished.
Historic damage with no live larvae is common in a property that has had several tenancies, and it is worth knowing you are not treating a problem that finished three years ago.
Short answers
Buckingham Questions
I rent. Do I report it to the landlord or just get it treated?
Report it in writing first, whatever you then decide to do. It fixes the date and the condition, which is the thing that matters later.
Can you tell old damage from new?
Usually. Live larvae, fresh cases, webbing and frass say it is active; bare patches with none of that say it happened and stopped. The report says which.
Do you work with letting agents?
Yes - surveys, written findings and treatment scheduled around check-in and check-out dates.
