Carpet Moth Control in Chesham
It almost never comes through the wall. It comes through the door, in a bag.
Carpet Moth Control in Chesham
Chesham has a lot of terraced and semi-detached housing, and the question we get asked most here is whether it has come from next door.
With rats and mice, that is often exactly what has happened. With carpet moths it very rarely is, and knowing that saves a good deal of unnecessary awkwardness with a neighbour.

Why the Neighbour Is Usually Not the Answer
Carpet moths are poor travellers. The adults are weak fliers that prefer to run, they live a fortnight or so, and they have no reason to cross a party wall when there is perfectly good wool on this side of it. Unlike rodents they are not looking for a route; they are looking for food, and they already found some.
What actually brings them into a house, in rough order of how often we see it:
- a second-hand rug, or second-hand upholstered furniture
- stored woollens brought back from somewhere else - a house clearance, a relative's loft, a storage unit
- a garment that came home with them on it
- occasionally a bird or wasp nest in a roof void, which is a genuine reservoir of feathers and insulation debris
That last one is worth checking in an older terrace with an open eaves run, and it is the one case where the answer really is above the ceiling rather than in the room.
What arrives is almost never an adult flying in. It is eggs or larvae already in something.
So the useful question is not "who has given me these" but "what came into this house in the last two years". It is a much more productive conversation and it does not involve knocking next door.
Short answers
Chesham Questions
Can moths come through a party wall?
It is very unlikely. They are weak fliers with no reason to leave food, and what usually brings them in is something carried through the front door.
Could it be a bird nest in the roof?
It can be, in older property with open eaves. Feathers and nest debris are a genuine food supply, and it is worth checking if the problem keeps returning upstairs.
Do you cover Chesham Bois and Ley Hill?
Yes, and Ashley Green, Botley and the surrounding area.
