Mice Control Amersham
Mice control across Amersham Old Town, Amersham-on-the-Hill and the villages around them.
Mice Control in Amersham
Amersham is two towns. The Old Town is period and largely listed or in a conservation area; Amersham-on-the-Hill is inter-war and post-war housing built around the station.
The Old Town raises the question we are asked most here, which is what proofing is allowed to look like in a building nobody may alter.

Proofing a Building You Cannot Change
Everything we use to close a mouse entry is reversible and does not alter the fabric: steel wool packed and sealed, stainless mesh, and a discreet plate where something is being gnawed at. Nothing is drilled into historic fabric and nothing needs cutting out.
Where a gap is part of the building — a worn threshold, a gap behind a beam, a ventilation opening that has to stay open — we will tell you plainly and propose mesh behind rather than filling in front. Tell us the building is listed when you book so it is planned that way rather than discussed on the doorstep.
On the Hill
Inter-War Housing and the Cavity
Around the station the housing is largely cavity-walled inter-war and post-war stock, and the cavity is the thing to understand. A cavity is supposed to be closed at the eaves and stopped at the base. In a great many houses of this age it is not, and an open cavity is warm and runs the full height of the building.
Mice that get into a cavity can appear anywhere from the kitchen skirting to a first-floor ceiling without crossing a room. If the noise moves around the house and the droppings turn up in unrelated places, that is usually what is happening, and the proofing goes in at the top and bottom of the cavity not where you last saw one.

Photographs on this page are for illustration purposes only.
What we ask
Before We Come to Amersham
Tell us whether the building is listed, whether the walls are cavity or solid, and where the noise moves. That decides most of what we need to know before we arrive.
You will be told what was found, where the entry points are, what was treated and what proofing is done or still outstanding. Where the way in belongs to somebody else — a neighbour, a landlord, a managing agent, a shared riser — we put it in writing rather than leave you to argue it.
If what you are describing sounds heavier than this — movement overhead with weight to it, droppings 12 to 18mm — it is a different animal: rat control in Amersham.
Before you book
Mice Control in Amersham — Questions
Will proofing damage a listed building?
No. Steel wool and sealant, stainless mesh and discreet plates are all reversible and nothing is cut into historic fabric. Tell us it is listed when you book so the visit is planned around it.
The noise moves around the house. What does that mean?
Usually the cavity. Where it has not been properly closed at the eaves and the base - common in houses of this age - it runs the full height of the building, so mice inside it can appear in unrelated places without crossing a room. The proofing goes in at the top and bottom of the cavity, not where you last heard them.
