The thing to understand about a cavity nest is that there is nothing to look at. The nest is inside the wall. All you get is a steady stream of wasps in and out of one small hole — an airbrick, a gap in a mortar joint, the slot under a window sill.

It does not change the price and it does not particularly change the treatment: the dust goes in at the entrance and the wasps carry it to the nest, which is exactly what you want when you cannot reach the nest yourself.

What it does change is what happens if you block the hole first, and this is the one piece of advice on this page that matters. Wasps sealed into a cavity chew their way out, and the path of least resistance is very often inward — through the plaster, into the room. Every year somebody fills an airbrick with expanding foam and has wasps in the back bedroom by the weekend.
