Carpet Moth Control in Aylesbury
One room at a time is how most of these are lost.
Carpet Moth Control in Aylesbury
Aylesbury has a lot of family estate housing, and the pattern we see most often here is a problem that was genuinely dealt with in the room where it was noticed and then reappeared two doors down.
Moths do not travel far or fast. They do not need to: a house is one continuous floor and the doors are open.
Room by room
Why It Comes Back in a Different Room
A female lays where she emerges, more or less. But "more or less" over a few generations, with a landing and a hall joining every room in the house, is enough to move a problem from the back bedroom to the lounge in a couple of years.
So treating the room with the bald patch, on its own, has a predictable failure mode. The larvae in the adjoining room were never touched, they finish their cycle, the adults walk under the door, and eight months later there is a new patch somewhere else. From the householder's side it looks like the treatment failed. It did not; it was simply drawn too small.
What we do instead is survey the whole floor before deciding the scope - every room with wool in it, the landing, the stairs, and the wardrobes - and then treat what is affected rather than what was reported. Sometimes that is one room and sometimes it is four, but it is decided by looking rather than by where you happened to notice it.
It is worth being clear about what moves and what does not: the larvae stay put and eat, and it is the adults they turn into that walk under the door.
Stairs are worth a special mention. Carpeted stairs are the one part of the house where the edges are numerous, the vacuuming is shallow and nothing is ever moved.
Short answers
Aylesbury Questions
Do you have to treat the whole house?
No - only what the survey shows is affected. The point is that the survey covers the whole floor before the scope is set, rather than stopping at the room you reported.
How far do carpet moths travel?
Not far by choice. But a house with open doors is one continuous space, and over a few generations they spread room to room.
Do you cover the villages around Aylesbury?
Yes, including Wendover, Weston Turville, Stoke Mandeville and the surrounding area.
