Fleas in a Business Premises
Fleas in a business are almost never about cleanliness, and treating them as though they are wastes the visit.
How they get in
Almost all of it comes down to four routes.
- Animals through the door. Grooming salons, kennels, catteries, veterinary practices and dog-friendly cafes and shops have hosts passing through all day.
- Staff. Somebody with a flea problem at home carries adults in on clothing, and the carpet under their desk becomes the focus. It is nobody's fault and it is worth saying so out loud, because staff are often mortified.
- Animals living in the building. Cats under a floor, in a void or a crawl space; birds nesting in a roof space or a soffit; foxes under an outbuilding or a portable cabin in a yard.
- Empty units and voids. A unit that has stood empty with a previous occupant's animal history behind it produces the classic swarm when somebody finally walks in.

Where they end up
Undisturbed carpet, low down. Under desks and counters, along the skirting behind display units, in the carpet of a waiting area, under benches and seating, and in any mat or rug.
Hard flooring is not immunity. The edges, the expansion gaps and the mats are all viable, and an entrance mat that everything walks over is one of the more productive places in the building.
In animal businesses the run-off areas matter as much as the treatment rooms — the drying area, the space under a grooming table, the corridor between a kennel block and the office.
How the visit works
We work around opening hours, including evenings and weekends, which for most businesses is the only practical way to do it. We attend discreetly and there is nothing about the visit that announces itself to customers.
You get a written account of what was found, where, what was done and what is planned. For a business that record is often as important as the treatment: environmental health, an insurer, a franchisor or a landlord may all want to see it.
Where the source is an animal living in the fabric of the building rather than visiting it, we will tell you plainly. Treating the carpet every six weeks while a cat raises kittens under the floor is money spent on the wrong problem, and the animal has to be dealt with properly and humanely first.
Keeping it out afterwards
For animal businesses, a routine matters more than any one treatment: regular vacuuming of the run-off areas and the edges rather than just the middle of the floor, hot-washing anything soft, and keeping the entrance mat clean.
For everyone else, the useful measures are structural: close the gaps that let cats into voids and roof spaces, clear abandoned nests from soffits and eaves, and deal with anything living under an outbuilding. That is usually a one-off piece of work that removes a recurring cost.

Quick Answers
Will our customers know you have been?
Not unless you tell them. We work around opening hours, including evenings and weekends, and attend discreetly.
Do we need to close for the day?
No. The treated areas need to be kept clear for a few hours while the treatment settles, which is why out-of-hours visits suit most businesses. We will give you the timing before the day, not on it.
